Forest School

Information to parents - Forest School sessions
Forest School sessions within our Smartys Day Nurseries are designed to ensure that our Preschool children are given ample opportunity to explore our natural world environment and all the benefits that this entails. It combines the Forest School ethos of developing children's self esteem, their self confidence, social skills, curiosity and their investigations, with all the support of their outdoor natural world. It provides the time for children to explore, investigate, experiment, and take managed risks within the backdrop of a natural world environment.

Of course it also ensures that children receive the very well documented additional benefits of being outdoors

such as fresh air, exercise, vitamin D, improved well being, and developing their resilience.

A brief overview of the backdrop to each session is that the children follow a simple routine that is embellished with free-flowing, intrinsic opportunities, again, all shaped by our outdoor world.

This routine includes, but is not restricted to, the Sticky feet activity, self-registration, discovering the Fairy box, exploring the Fairy task, storytime, and finally, hot chocolate around the campfire with songs!

OFSTED Report

Our children will be encouraged to explore a different activity each week, ensuring new discoveries, new experiences, and exciting opportunities.

Forest school sessions alternate on different days to ensure that every Preschooler has the time to attend. They take place no matter the weather, (apart from storms and very windy weather which will mean a cancellation unfortunately). For children attending a session in the winter months, they will please need to bring the following to nursery.

We follow parent’s wishes as to where and when the babies sleep. We have a variety of cots, bouncers and sleep mats. We do not have set times for sleeping. Babies sleep as needed but also in line with their parents wishes.

Our babies nappies are changed regularly throughout the day or whenever needed. The carers check the babies’ nappies regularly. Each child has their own box where we store your child’s own nappies, wipes and creams (we do ask for parents to provide these).

Our babies are encouraged to explore and become mobile as they begin to cruise, crawl and walk around the rooms.

Wellies, a hat and gloves
An all-in-one wet suit and a warm coat.

In summer we shall require them to bring,
A thin wet suit,
A hat with full protection
Wellies
Suncream

In every season, any long hair needs tying back and please avoid loose clothing.

After each Forest School session that your child attends, information about their adventures will be posted on their Tapestry journey for you to enjoy.
